The Digital Health Initiative 2024 Conference: Health Equity in the Digital Era, was held on May 6th at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Attended by over 100 representatives from community-based organizations, healthcare centers, private industry, and government entities, the conference featured discussions on the use of digital tools to promote equitable healthcare and public health solutions. Speakers and panelists discussed strategies to address the challenges of disparities in digital health care and literacy, such as reducing bias in artificial intelligence for use in healthcare, incorporating diversity in all phases of digital health innovation, improving current tools such as patient portals and electronic health records, promoting patient engagement through mobile apps, and using digital health tools in tandem with affirming, in-person care. Evaluation of the conference revealed that participants valued what they learned, shared conference resources with their organizations, and planned to use action items provided to them post-conference such as reassessing and promoting health equity in their programming and policies.
